The Westmoreland neighborhood in Toledo, OH, is a charming and vibrant community with a rich history. It is located in the west-central part of the city and is roughly bordered by Dorr Street, Parkside Boulevard, Bancroft Street, and Upton Avenue. It is known for its tree-lined streets and diverse housing options. Developed by William B. Welles and Badger C. Bowen, construction began in the area in 1917. Westmoreland boasts a mix of architectural styles, including Craftsman, Colonial, and Tudor-style houses.
The neighborhood’s location provides easy access to downtown Toledo and major transportation routes, making it a sought-after community for its charm and urban connectivity. It is conveniently located within one mile of the University of Toledo and the Toledo Hospital, within two miles of the Toledo Museum of Art, and roughly three miles from the Toledo Zoo. St. Francis de Sales High School and Gesu Church, which offers a K through 8th grade school as well as a 300 capacity event center, are also established just outside of Westmoreland.
Members of the community have fought diligently to protect Westmoreland’s architectural identity. It is one of 17 Historic Districts in Toledo and one of only three that is designated as a Historic Overlay District by the Toledo City Council. This means that exteriors of Westmoreland homes must maintain historically accurate appearances. With the exception of landscaping and paint, homeowners must receive a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Toledo Historic Commission Review Board prior to making exterior changes.

The neighborhood is in close proximity to Ottawa and Jermain Parks, which together are the largest regional parks with over 400 acres. The expansive recreation centers boast an ice rink, amphitheater, 16 tennis courts, five miles of paved trails, mountain bike trails, an 18-hole golf course, a 19-hole disc golf course, and the Toledo Police Museum.
